swimmers ear

Yesterday, we splashed in a friends pool all afternoon.  Kip and I saw The Adjustment Bureau (I am in love with Matt Damon even more now) while the kids played in Jeremiah's room and we all went to bed super tired.

Around midnight Audrey woke up complaining of an ear ache.  We tried to settle her and comfort her back to sleep but it was hurting her way too much. I quickly got out of bed and googled "swimmers ear", then gave her some pain reliever and turned the heating pad on to rest her head.

Nothing helped.  And I think between the 3 of us we got 3 hours of sleep.

Today she is doing much better. She played outside and took a much needed long nap.

Jeremiah can officially say it's summer, today was his last day of school.  He also showed me a picture he took with his iPod of his favorite girl in school... but I'm not telling

I work all weekend and the first day back is always the hardest.

I hope all of you have a beautiful weekend....
I will leave you with more fun photo booth pictures from the Pampers event...

Pampers First Fathers Day Celebration

Last weekend was the Fathers Day Celebration hosted by Pampers and myself.  Iv'e been meaning to share with all of you on how it went... I am super thrilled to say that it was a great success.

The weather was perfect, the view gorgeous (Santa Monica beach), there was food, bubble machines, coloring books, gifts, a latin jazz band, free massages, a super fun photo booth and so many beautiful Latino families.

The turn out was fantastic, I hope all the dad's that attended felt special (they are).

Thanks to "likes" from you Pampers threw parties like this (First Fathers Day Cook-Outs) all across the country via their Little Miracle Missions campaign... these personal touches make a brand stand out from all the rest.
You can learn more about the great things they are up to via Pampers Facebook page.

I got to meet in person some of my readers, and saw friends, and fellow bloggers (whom I adore) and was in baby heaven.

Babies make any party special.
And this party had a lot of them. ( :

I seriously wish I could share every picture with you!

They are each so perfect.

A huge thanks to Pampers for choosing me for this project... this event was all about family and culture... both things dear to my heart.

*I was given monetary compensation for working on this project, attending the event, and blogging about it. It still was a super event, something I put a lot of me into, and feel proud to be a part of.

Fathers Day

Sometimes, I have to say, he is so much better at being mom

He tucks them in bed.  Reads them stories. Watches super hero movies... or Strawberry Shortcake cartoons.

Did dishes last night

... and let me sleep in this morning.

I did make pancakes for him when I woke up ( :
(we LOVE him)

Happy Fathers Day!

Pampers giveaway winner... and more on baby showers

I loved reading through all the baby shower stories and comments, my favorite has to be Ashleigh's... who got a baby shower in the mail... cards from loved ones far away arriving at her door step at the same time to wish her and baby sweet thoughts. Perfect

... have you ever played the shower game where everyone is given a pin at the start of the shower... the rules: don't cross your legs (because expecting mamas can't cross their legs)... and if you do and someone sees you... they get to take your pin away..  and at the end of the shower the lady with the biggest collection of pins wins?!?  I love that game!!

I randomly picked a winner for the Pampers gift card giveaway... Congrats Sindy!  You are the winner!
Yay!

I had an intimate shower.  Friends. Family. Mini sandwiches.
The sun was shining.
And I felt so happy.

If you haven't yet... make sure you like Pampers on facebook.  They provided the gift card for this lovely giveaway... let's pay it forward by helping moms across the country get baby showers also!!

the nanny

Sometimes, when I don't answer her the first time...
she yells out  "Marcela" and sometimes "mamicela".

This new going to the potty thing is harder than I thought.  Who knew I would have to carry so much... a travel potty, change of clothes, training pants.... and jelly beans... because she needs a treat after she goes...
She will be three soon.  And I seriously don't know how that happened so fast?

Her favorite things to eat are avocado (cacahuate...is what she likes to call it even though it's aguacate) and cucumber (pepino).
I don't ever wake her up from a nap... it will take 1 million years to make her happy if she wakes up on the wrong side.

Today we walked to the park together, I sat with all the nannies while the kids played and when a friend asked her if I was her nannie... she answered... "that's not a nannie that's a mommy"

summer camp

Audrey asks to go to school all the time.  I'm not sure what she thinks happens at school... since she's never been... but she does know Jeremiah goes...

I'm really excited that she gets to spend a whole week this summer at KinderCare.  They offered me a week of fun for her... and I asked would you like?... and she said YES!

I think we'll choose Splish, Splash!,  since it's only appropriate, being summer and all, yet, she is such a good helper in the kitchen...

KinderCare sent me some images to share with you,  I thought the lemonade was interesting with such a high number of parents sending their kiddies to summer camp.  Is this because they might be working parents (like myself) or just parents who run out of ideas to keep the kids entertained?

Do you do summer camp? Why or why not?

*I was not given any monetary compensation for sharing... but Audrey does get a free week of summer camp at KinderCare.

Tortilla Soup

I am always in need of tomato inspired recipes during the summer...

Here is one I was sent to share with you, tried recently, was easy to make, affordable ingredients, really yummy, and will definitely do more of throughout the summer...

Tortilla Soup with Tortilla Chips, Queso Fresco and Crema

Ingredients
4oz Cacique queso fresco, crumbled
2 oz Cacique Crema Mexicana
1 tbsp. olive oil
2 tomatoes
4 tomatillos, peeled and washed
1/2 cup yellow onion, diced
1 chile Guajillo, seeded and toasted
1 tsp. chipotle chile canned in adobo, minced
1 garlic clove, minced
1/2 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp cumin
6 oz tortilla chips
2 qts. chicken stock
1 avocado, diced
Cilantro sprigs
Salt and Pepper to taste

Preparation
In a large pot, place olive oil over medium heat, add tomatoes, tomatillos onion, both chiles, garlic, oregano and cumin. Sauté for 15 minutes until all is very soft and mushy.  Add 5 oz of the tortilla chips to the pot along with the chicken stock or water and bring to a boil.  Once the soup is boiling, turn down to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Place the soup in a blender and blend until very smooth. Add the soup back to the soup pot and bring back to a simmer and check seasonings.

For assembly pour about 6 ounces of soup in a bowl and garnish with the reserved tortilla chips, a drizzle of crema Mexicana, crumbles of queso Fresco, avocado and a sprig of cilantro.

Enjoy!

*Cacique sent this recipe for me to share. No compensation was given.

Rainbows... and shopping at Whole Foods on a budget

I ate a rainbow today.

Red and yellow peppers. Baby carrots. Avocado. Red cabbage. Blueberries.

... how many colors of the rainbow can you find in the kitchen?

Have you heard?... the USDA is replacing the food pyramid... with a plate!
What do you think?

Audrey and I recently took a tour of Whole Foods...  and learned so much from it we have been shopping there lately...

(with same budget!)

I want to share some tips Iv'e been learning...

Tips for Shopping at Whole Foods
  • Set up a personal tour at your local store.  You will learn so much!  Learn how to find their deals, look for certain labels and brands and really take advantage of the store.
  • Shop the bulk bins.  The items are cheaper because you aren't paying for packaging or brand names , you can get as much or as little as you want.
  • Shop for produce that's in season.  People usually stick to the same veggies and fruits all year long.  Try new stuff, it's healthy and can be cheap too.
  • Remember portion sizes, instead of having a huge piece of beef, chicken or fish, stick to 3-4 oz portions... "reconfigure your plate".
  • Fish is too expensive? Get a whole fish. They weigh it, clean it and portion it for you.  This way you know for sure what kind of fish you are eating and can save some money as well.
  • Make a list... and actually take it with you ( :.  There is so much healthy and yummy temptation in this store... but if you have a list you can stick to just what you need.
  • Print out some of their whole deal newsletter coupons or pick the newsletter up when you are there.  You might find a good deal or something you need among the coupons.
  • Take advantage of their website, they have great recipes that you can usually make or adjust to your budget.

Do you ever shop here?  What tips do you have?

Share them!!!

*No compensation was given for this post. I was given a tour and think more people should take it too!

female warrior

I want to be like Tigress when I grow up.  She's a girl, and she kicks butt.

Can you tell she is my favorite?

We were recently invited to the Dreamworks Studio here in LA for a pre screening of Kung Fun Panda 2.

We had a great time... a movie, good food, friends, lot's of kids and Mattel's new line of Kung Fu Panda toys.  Audrey was super contenta.

They provided day care, which always makes events like this so much funner for the kids.

The film has a little of everything, laughter, lot's and lot's of action, sweetness (including Po as a baby) and those moments...where you find yourself teary and hope no one is noticing you.( :

I have to admit it's not as funny as the first, yet they were able to make a very entertaining sequel.

The event was perfect... right up to the mini pb&j sandwiches and agua fresca de sandia.

The kids had a ball with the toys... and Audrey has been playing Panda here with all the goodies they sent us home with.

I may have borrowed a mini Tigress from their toys... to remind me of how tough and awesome this Tigress can be. ( ;
