It's all in the details

I know I've mentioned before, that I'm a sucker for small businesses.
Probably because a small business provides for this family.  It helps keep us warm and helps keep tummies full.
It's local...only two miles away from our home.  A store that makes you feel welcome and takes you back to when every business was local and family owned.
Kip has been working hard for months on a new store website... which I have to show off
via Crown City Hardware
You can find beautiful restoration and decorative hardware for your little bungalow (ours was built in 1905), your fancy victorian, your art deco or that warm place you call home You will most likely only be able to find it at Crown City Hardware. And you can expect quality.  I know my husband, he will make sure of this. ( :
Visit.  And tell your friends.  Let them know why it's so important to shop small business.

via Crown City Hardware

Because it helps families like ours.
PS. If you watch movies and TV shows then you have probably seen hardware from Crown City Hardware..... take a look at their movie/TV show list!  Is one of your favorite movies on there????

honey recipes to soothe your throat from the cold

A week ago.  SO very different weather.  Oh so different.

The rain in LA is coming down hard.  Really hard.  I have to get ready for work and then drive in this weather.  Tonight.   This, is really freaking me out.

My throat is itchy.  Like when you want to get a scratcher and shove it down your throat and scratch,  and my ears are hurting and I want to dig in those too.

I really should have stayed home.  But it's too late to call sick.  And nurses are like gold during days like this ( : Specially right before the Holidays.

I'm taking care of my throat naturally, thought I should share...

Honey and Red Wine Vinegar Soother

2 tablespoons 100% honey
1/2 cup water
2 teaspoons red wine vinegar

Mix all and heat until warm.  Stir and take as needed.

Honey and Cayenne Pepper Throat Coater

1 tablespoon 100% pure Honey
1 cayenne pepper
juice of 1/2 lemon
4 cups of water

Place cayenne pepper in water and bring to a boil. Add lemon juice. Let sit for a while and add honey. Drink throughout the day.

I have been using the recipes above to help with throat pain and itchiness.
This tea has helped also.... (it will be in my mug  before I leave to work tonight)...

Honey Citrus Blend

1/4 cup 100% pure Honey
3 bags of green tea
1 cinnamon stick
3 cups boiling water
1 cup grapefruit juice

Place tea bags and cinnamon stick in a 1-quart tea pot.  Add boiling water, steep 3 to 5 minutes. Remove cinnamon stick and tea bags.  Stir in grapefruit juice.  Add honey.

Wish me luck tonight.  I just want to have a good night ( :
I hope you have a lovely night, and stay warm
and dry.

Enjoy the recipes ( :

Bodega Bay and The Birds

Here are more pictures from my recent trip up North.  Bodega Bay ( the popular filming location of the movie The Birds).  The town is definitely proud of being host to such a popular film.  Little remnants can be spotted throughout the town.

It's a fun place to visit, we had a scavenger type afternoon looking for all the filming spots ( :

The Tides restaurant (the original restaurant that appeared in the film burned years ago, but a new  Tides stands in it's place...it's a perfect place to get you seafood fix.  Delish.
A little freaky..right?  All the birds flying?!?!

The old school house...remember?

It was a lovely girl filled afternoon.  Yummy food to eat.  Girl conversations in the car.  Talks on the movie.  Talks on birds.  Talk on friends ( :

Sorry for the little posting these days.  I'm really taking the time to enjoy my family during the Holidays.  Will definitely be back soon.

Real time:  Audrey is running around with cookie sprinkles...I asked her "what are you doing?" ...."nothing" she just responded..... smells like trouble) ( :

Abrazos,
Marcela

PS.  Have you seen the film?

Pampers Latino Milagros

These shots melt my heart...and if it had a breastfeeding mother and baby  I could call it perfect.

Enjoy.

Milagros

*Disclaimer: I was compensated  for attending a Pampers brand event.  Thoughts and feelings on the event are all my own.

Sometimes, you just can't explain it.  Or put into words. Or know exactly what you felt....

except you know that it's the most amazing feeling, ever.  You are inundated with love.  And peace.  And for that moment everything is perfect.

Miracles.
my two little miracles working on gingerbread house

Audrey and I were invited to the launch of Pampers brand "Pequeño Milagro" (Every Little Miracle) campaign. The event took place at MacArthur Park Primary Center, a very cute pre school/kindergarten center with majority Latino student population.

We enjoyed goodies.  Got to see blogger friends (which is always the best part about going to these sort of things).... and I got to chase Audrey around the playground ( :  Yay!

Catalina, me, Liz, and Jennifer
The students had a special performance prepared,  spanglish Christmas carols... and when Audrey saw all the kids lined up singing fun songs she HAD to join in.

It was the cutest thing watching her sing along and join them.

Pampers announced the donation of a mural to this lovely school, and from the pictures of mothers and babies we saw and the great local artists Retna and El Mac who will work on it...I'm sure it will be beautiful.

We heard all about the new campaign.
Their new Milagro campaign promises to provide resources and support for Latina mothers and their babies remembering that "every baby is a little miracle", they also have a new facebook page. It's specially geared towards Latina moms.

We also had a chance to meet Barbara Bermudo from the popular spanish show Primer Impacto.  She is the perfect choice for spokesperson of this Latina focused campaign (just as lovely in real life) .... the honorary madrina, as they call her.   She was glowing all over, giving birth to her second baby girl just one month ago.  She is also on Pampers Latino facebook page, her videos, chats and pictures show just how much of a sweetheart she is.

Visit Pampers Latino on facebook, and "like" them.  I just did ( :
